Rabat, Morocco, May 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) British song writer and singer Elton John will be attending and performing at the biggest Moroccan music festival despite the protest made by the Islamist conservatives of the state. The organizers of the Mawazine World Rhythms festivals have reportedly said that they have decided to invite Elton John because he is one of greatest artist in the world. Aziz Daki, the festival’s director reportedly told to a media source that Elton John is great and extraordinary when he appears on stage and that is the reason behind calling him. The music festival is scheduled to begin this week at Rabat.
Elton John who has been in the world of music for more than four decades now and has made many significant contributions to the field of music has achieved many international accolades for his performances and contributions. However, the writer of the best-selling single ever, “Candle in the Wind ‘97″, is a self confessed gay and that is what the conservative Islamists groups are pointing at and making issue of. The opposition Islamists group that is quite powerful is saying that the presence of Elton John in the Mawazine World Rhythms festivals will malign the image of Morocco.
One of the opposition Islamist PJD party member has reportedly mentioned to media sources that Morocco is an Islamist state and that the state should not allow a person with “such a degree of debauchery” to perform on its stage as it is the duty of the state to shield its youths from such influences. However, Aziz Daki has mentioned to reporters that it is not the duty or the business of the organization to peep into the private life of the artist and that they are invited for their professional talent.
