Mar 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Ellen Pompeo, known for her role in the hit television series “Grey’s Anatomy,” in which she plays the title character of Meredith Grey, has hit the headlines recently for not taking what most women take for granted, and what is universally deemed as extremely essential to all women: her maternity leave. Pregnant with the child of her husband Chris Ivery, she took a leave from work, and returned to the sets of the television series a mere four weeks after she had given birth. The daughter, who has been named Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery, is the first child of the actress.

The return of Ellen Pompeo on the floors of “Grey’s Anatomy” shocked more than it impressed or even surprised, since most considered that she should have taken the maternity leave which is granted as an absolute necessity. What was even more surprising in the entire matter was that the actress had managed to get back into her former fabulous shape within the four weeks after the birth of her daughter, showing nothing of the postpartum blues that are expected of a new mother. However, Ellen Pompeo does have her own logic to defend her decision.

The reason is just the same anxiety that has been hitting everyone holding down a job in these tough economic times. Ellen Pompeo feels that while she still holds a job, she should be putting her best into it, and never take it for granted. She feels that since she has the opportunity to work, she should be making the most of it. However, she does clarify that her daughter tops her priority list, and her career comes only after that.
