RGBIt has been reported by Fox, the producers of “American Idol“, that Ellen DeGeneres will become the fourth judge for the ninth season of the popular show. She will be sharing the judge’s couch with Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi.

This announcement was made on Wednesday, promptly after Paula Abdul declared that she will be giving up her position as a judge on the show before its ninth season. The ninth season of the ever so popular TV reality show is slotted for January 2010.

Although there have been rumors that Paula might be returning to judge the show once again, this official announcement has put to rest all such rumors. Indeed, Ms. DeGeneres, who is the host of a popular talk show, will be replacing Paula Abdul in the panel of judges after the ongoing auditions are over. Ms. DeGeneres has also confirmed her Emmy-winning talk show audience that she will still be hosting her daytime show but at the same time she will also be judging the “American Idol” during the night.

DeGeneres expressed her excitement at the offer saying, “I’m thrilled to be the new judge on American Idol. I’ve watched since the beginning, and L’ve always been a huge fan. So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text in my vote.”
Simon Fuller who is the creator and executive producer of American Idol says, “I could not be more excited to have Ellen join the American Idol family. Ellen has been a fan of the show for many years, and her love and understanding of understanding of the American public will bring a unique human touch to our judging panel.”
