Mumbai, Feb 12 (IANS) Karan Johar couldn’t have asked for more. After hitting the jackpot with his mega-budget “Agneepath”, he has found a goldmine with “Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu” (EMAET). The modest-budget romantic comedy not only received good reviews, but earned Rs.12.5 crore in the first two days and wooed overseas box offices as well.
The film released Friday and the opening day collection was Rs.5.5 crore. On the second day, the film, which boasts of the fresh pair of Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor, garnered Rs.7 crore.
“There is a 40 percent jump in the collections from Friday to Saturday and then again from Saturday to Sunday. The word of mouth and reviews are strong and helped the film,” said a source.
Even lead actor Imran is happy and said: “I am overwhelmed at the response EMAET is generating.”
Praising the film a critic wrote that the picture though, smartly written and filmed by debutant Shakun Batra, is mellow yet dramatic, softer and subtler, while other scribe described “Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu” as a movie that comprises a series of elegantly-written, confident but never in-your-face scenes.
In the international market, which includes Britain, North America, Gulf and Australia, EKAET did and impressive job by earning Rs3.65 core ($730,000)
The films’ box office collection is a bonus for it’s the producer as it recovered Rs.21 crore, which he had invested in it, even before its release.
The production budget of the film was Rs.21 crore and the maker spent another Rs.8 crore on print, advertising and publicity.
“Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu” recovered Rs.15 crore by selling satellite rights and Rs.6 crore from its music.
