December 3rd, 2011 - 12:53 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattAtlanta, Dec 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Vanessa Long, the wife of mega televangelist Eddie Long, has directed her lawyers to file for divorce. Vanessa said she reached the decision after “a great deal of deliberation and prayer.”
Vanessa urged the public to respect her privacy as she goes through the divorce process. She did not divulge the reason for seeking divorce in the statement that she issued on Friday.
Part of the statement said that, “I ask that you respect my privacy and that of my family, as my attorneys and I have agreed that we will not try this case in the media, and I do not intend to make any further statements concerning this matter. I also ask that the public pray for my entire family during this difficult period of transition.”
The issue will no doubt bring Long back into the public domain. The pastor settled a sexual abuse lawsuit filed by four of his male church members. The men accused him of sexually abusing them during their trips saying he used money and gifts to coerce them. The suit was later settled out of court but the details of the agreement were not revealed.
His church New Birth Missionary Baptist Church which is located in Atlanta is home to about 25,000 Christians.
