‘Easy Rider’ actor Dennis Hopper dies at 74

VENICE, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) — Actor Dennis Hopper died of prostate cancer at his California home on Saturday morning, his wife said. He was 74. Hopper died surrounded by his family and his closest friends.

Throughout his career, Hopper participated in movies such as “Apocalypse Now” by Francis Ford Coppola, “Blue Velvet” and “Speed.” His role in “Hoosiers” (1986) by David Anspaugh, earned him an Oscar nomination. World fame came with “Easy Rider”, which became a cult film.

Hopper was also an art collector, painter and photographer. He left his work on television after “Crash” in October 2009 to concentrate on his cancer treatment, a battle he lost on Saturday.

Hopper grew up on a farm in Kansas. When he was 20 years old, he shared the screen with James Dean in “Rebel Without a Cause” and “Giant.”

Just two months ago he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Despite his condition, the actor attended the ceremony and enjoyed the applause of his fans.

Recently, in the last months of his live, he was involved in a bitter legal battle following his divorce from his fifth wife, Victoria Duffy, after 14 years of marriage.
