October 29, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The Indian film industry churns out the highest number of movies each year, sadly enough most of them are not appreciated by the International audience. Bollywood or the Hindi film industry has been at the forefront of Indian cinema for a long time now. However, the fact remains that Bollywood still continues to champion the cause of stereotyping.
Each year, hundreds of movies are released that are bound by the usual constraints of stereotypes. However, a few filmmakers have managed to break away from the norm and try their hands at something different. The upcoming film Dunno Y—Na Jaane Kyun is slated to be India’s answer to the legendary ‘Brokeback Mountain’ that propelled Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger to stardom.
Dunno Y—Na Jaane Kyun tells a story of a serious relationship between two Indian men living in a metro. Director Anil Sharma decided to make the film right after the Delhi High Court made homosexuality legal. The film stars Kapil Sharma as an aspiring male model who is forced to mask his sexuality to further his career. Anil Sharma’s last movie Veer starred Salman Khan and it was complete macho action adventure. The director is trying out a completely new genre of cinema with this new movie.
The uninhibited posters and marketing of the film has raised questions if the producers are trying to sensationalize the movie prior to its release. The plot of the movie is very intriguing to say the least and we will have to wait and watch how the audience reacts to its contents.
