Los Angeles, Jan 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Following the success it chalked in its first season, Downton Abbey returned for another season last Sunday (the 8th of January). In its first season, the miniseries received six Emmys including the coveted best miniseries of the year.

It is already touted as the most successful miniseries in the history of “Masterpiece” selling record-breaking DVD copies.

Executive producer Gareth Neame spoke about how successful the first season was when he said that, “My first indication we had something exceptional on our hands. Was that less than a week after the first episode of the first season aired, I was in a supermarket and the woman next to me said to her friend, ‘And I don’t mean that in a ‘Downton Abbey’ sort of way.’ I thought, hmmm, you don’t usually get that response this early.”

Even much earlier than that, the script of the series got another person impressed. According to British actress Joanne Froggatt, as soon as she got the script, she knew it was something special. She revealed that as soon as she started reading the script, she called her agent and indicated that she is having hard time putting it down.

The series is about 20th century British story. The show is aired on Sundays at 9 pm.
