Brampton, June 24 (IANS) The “chandaal chaukdi” - Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Ashish Chaudhary, Jaaved Jaffery - along with the girls Mallika Sherawat and Kangana Ranaut, sent Bollywood fans here in a tizzy as they walked the green carpet for the world premiere of their comedy movie “Double Dhamaal”, on the first day of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards here.
The four male actors are referred to as “chandaal chaukdi” in the movie, directed by Indra Kumar.
The actors didn’t walk the carpet together, but attracted immense attention from the thousand plus Indian as well as Canadian fans, who waited for hours to catch a glimpse of their favourite Hindi filmstars, outside the SilverCity theatre in Brampton late Thursday evening.
The “Double Dhamaal” stars felt enthused to see the energy of the fans, and seemed extremely excited about shaking hands with them, and even waving at them ‘Hollywood style’.
“It’s fantastic…the reception here is so heart warming,” said Mallika, who was dressed in a black and gold Indian ensemble by fashion designer Anita Dongre.
Fans kept shouting out the names of the actors - indicating the popularity of Bollywood stars in Ontario, the host of the three-day IIFA extravaganza this year.
Fans were so enthused that they gave a huge shout to even Aarti Chhabbria, who has been off the Bollywood radar for sometime, but participated in the action-adventure show “Khatron Ke Khiladi Torchaar” recently.
The first green carpet also saw celebrities like Anil Kapoor, Boman Irani, Lisa Ray, Zayed Khan, Genelia D’Souza - all attracting equal attention.
There was a lot of demand for Anil Kapoor, who has made a name for himself in the international market after projects like “Slumdog Millionaire” and TV series “24″. He also recently shot in Toronto for “Mission Impossible 4″, and is gearing up to shoot for “Cities” around November this year.
“I didn’t know this guy is an Indian! He was really very good in ‘24′. He looks great in person,” a Canadian journalist was overheard as saying by this IANS correspondent.
The green carpet was followed by the screening of “Double Dhamaal”, which turned out to be quite a dampener.
