Don Van Vliet Aka Captain Beefheart Dies At 69

don2Dec 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Avant-garde rock legend Don Van Vliet passed away at a Northern California Hospital on Friday. The renowned musician died from complications of multiple sclerosis, Michael Werner Gallery, which exhibits his paintings announced the news to the media. The “Trout Mask Replica” singer was 69-years-old. The musician is survived by his wife.

Don Van Vliet began his singing career in mid-1960’s with the stage name Captain Beefheart and he was well known for experimenting with unconventional sounds. The musician debuted his first two releases with ‘The Magic Band’ and he even recorded 12 music albums with them. Don Van Vliet influenced the rise of post punk, punk and new wave in the music industry. Michael Werner Gallery released a statement after the unfortunate demise of the musician and artist where it was maintained that the musician was an influential figure on the field of performing arts. The statement also read that Don Van Vliet was preferably known as Captain Beefheart, who with ‘The Magic Band’ rose to popularity in 1960’s in rock and roll, which had its own style

Michael Werner Gallery also stated in its statement that Don Van Vliet was the primary recording artists of his time. The statement added that after being in spotlight for two decades the veteran musician retired from music and devoted himself to drawing and painting. Frank Zappa’s son Ahmet Zappa expressed his condolences in the homepage of a social networking site and shared one of his best moments with the musicians. Don Van Vliet’s family has not announced the funeral arrangements as yet.
