Dominick Dunne: Remembering A Pioneer Of “Celebrity-Crime” Stories

don2Dominick Dunne is said to have passed away on Wednesday, at his home in Manhattan, after succumbing to a critical state of bladder cancer (which he had been known to diagnosed with for sometime). He was 83. His actor-director son, Griffin Dunne has confirmed the news to sources.

It can be very sadly said that the literary world, as well as the world of journalism, has lost a very prominent crusader. Dunne has been an ever persistent journalist in his long spanning career and is known to have made valuable contribution by pursuing celebrity-crime related endeavors. He is known to be a pioneer in his own rights, who had unravel many of the true crime tales of high class circle.

He attained the celebrity status himself when he tracked the O.J. Simpson kidnap and robbery trial with a vengeance, as well as Claus Von Bulow, to account to the general public, the true happenings behind the glitz of the high society.

A moment of trial came in the life of the author when Tina Brown, then Vanity Fair editor, had asked him to cover the trail of the man who had been charged with the slaying of his daughter, Dominique Dunne, a 22 year old aspiring actress.

His ability to tell stories shocking stories of crime hidden in the world of the rich and the famous, had made him immensely popular among the readers. His monthly column in the magazine provided a glimpse in to the world of the celebs beyond the glamor. A few other high profile trails that he is known to have covered during his career are the ones of the Mendendez brothers, Michael Skakel, William Kennedy Smith and Phil Spector.
