New York, Feb 13 (ANI): Singer songwriter Dolly Parton has opened up about the depression she went through when she could not have kids.
According to the Globe, Parton, 64, said the idea of not having children made her become so depressed during menopause in the mid-1980s, that she considered suicide.
“I went through a dark time - it lasted several months,” the New York Daily News quoted Parton as saying.
“I think I would have made a nice mama. I always thought I’d have kids. We tried to for so many years, and then I put it on hold because my career was doing so well and I was on birth control pills,” she revealed.
But the Queen of Country Music, who regretted that she never had kids with husband Carl Dean, overcame her depression.
“Then one day, I just said to myself, ‘Right, get off your fat butt, or if you really are suicidal, then go and shoot your brains out’,” she said.
“I thought, ‘Maybe God didn’t want me to have kids so that everybody else’s kids could be mine’,” she added. (ANI)
