Documentary to be part of Festival of India in South Africa
June 22nd, 2011 - 10:32 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, June 22 (IANS) A documentary titled “Journey of Indian Cinema”, chronicling the three eras of one of the world’s largest film-producing nations, will be screened as a part of Festival of India that began in South Africa Wednesday.
The first screening of the documentary will be at Johannesburg and after that it will travel to Durban and Cape Town. The aim is to educate South African audiences about the journey of Indian cinema by depicting the three eras - silent, golden and contemporary - and how technical, social and cultural changes in the country affected the moviemaking industry.
Prepared by NGO Route2Roots, the documentary will have various actors, directors, technicians, set designers and others talking about the three eras of Indian cinema.
“Our NGO has always believed in instigating a chord of friendship between countries through art and culture. And the fest in South Africa continues our journey of peace and harmony which will help in establishing healthy and friendly relations between two countries,” said Tina Vachani of Routes2Roots.
The Festival of India, a two-month long cultural programme, is being organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), South Africa’s Department of Arts and Culture and the Indian High Commission in Pretoria.
