Dobbs becomes a nightmare for CNN
August 5th, 2009 - 7:46 pm ICT by IBNSAug 5 (IBNS) Famous news anchor Lou Dobbs has become a challenge for CNN bosses after he embarrassed his boss and hosted a show that seemed to contradict the channel’s “no bias” brand.
The Washington Times reported that CNN insists it is backing Dobbs despite calls for his sacking from critics.
Dobbs has been severely criticised for his reporting on “birthers” — those who believe President Barrack Obama wasn’t born in the United States despite convincing evidence to the contrary.
The birthers believe that Obama was born in Kenya and thus is not eligible to be president.
“He’s embarrassed himself, and he’s embarrassed CNN. And that’s not a good thing for any network that wants to be seen as a reputable, nonpartisan news organization,” Brooks Jackson, a former CNN correspondent, was quoted as saying by the daily.
Dobbs has tried his best to fight back his critics and also called them “limp-minded, lily-livered lefty lemmings.” on his radio show but that hasn’t made life easy for him.
To add to that the programs ratings are also slipping drastically. According to a study by Nielsen Media Research 861,000 people who tuned into his 7 p.m. newscast on a typical night are down 20 percent from last year but the show is still ahead of MSNBC’s “Hardball With Chris Matthews” in that hour.
Dobbs, through a spokesman, said that he would not comment but added that he is and will be with CNN. He has been with CNN virtually from the network’s beginning, except for a two-year break.
