Oprah Winfrey London, May 4 (IANS) Canadian singer Shania Twain was shattered after her split with husband Robert Lange, but now she feels that divorce was a positive thing in her life.

Her husband’s alleged affair with her friend and assistant Marie-Anne Thiebaud led to the end of their marriage in 2008 after 14 years of being together, she said on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in an interview.

The 45-year-old country star even wrote a letter to Marie-Anne asking her: “Please leave us in peace… I’m begging you. I am so low, so broken hearted, I can’t take it anymore. I wish you love and happiness but I am dying… Have mercy. This is killing me. I loved him so much that I can’t cope anymore. I don’t want life or love anymore. I just want peace. Why are you torturing me? Let it go, please. Find love somewhere else from someone else.”

“I know it was pathetic. But we all have pathetic moments. No one is above this type of low.”

But Twain now says that the divorce eventually became “a very positive thing,” as she “needed the wake-up,” contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.

Twain has penned down a book titled “From This Moment On” and has been able to forgive Lange and Marie-Anne in due course of time.

“Despite everything, I still loved my husband. And I still loved my friend. I put myself in their shoes with the understanding that accidents happen, we’re all human, and we all make mistakes. Eventually, I came to the point of accepting the end of my marriage,” she said.
