Distributors of ‘Blue Valentine’ Appeal NC-17 Rating

Oct 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) ‘Blue Valentine’ is a very anticipated drama which stars Michelle Williams, and Ryan Gosling which allows the viewers to watch as a marriage slowly falls apart. The Motion Picture Association of America because a sex scene in the movie was determined to be too intense.

The movie was a top selection at the Sundance Film Festival, and many critics were suspecting it may be nominated for an Oscar. The rating will put a limit on how many theaters will show the movie, thus cutting the chances for a win dramatically. A quote from ‘CNN’ verifies this saying, “NC-17 movies simply don’t get Oscar nominations. (Unless you count a cinematography nod for ‘Henry and June.’)”

An NC-17 rating is sometimes called the kiss of death for a film, until the point that it is released on DVD. This is why the distributors of the film, Weinstein Company have filed an appeal on the decision. The movie is directed by Derek Cianfrance and is set to be in theaters in America on December 31.
