Discovery Channel now in Bangla
May 10th, 2011 - 8:01 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 10 (IANS) After being available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English, Discovery Channel has now been launched in Bangla to cater to audiences in West Bengal.
“I am confident that the launch of Bangla feed will give viewers a deeper and more fulfilling viewing experience,” Rahul Johri, senior vice president and general manager -South Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said in a press statement.
All the programmes and their airing schedule will remain identical in all the language feeds, and viewers will be able to choose their preferred language through the remote control.
In 1998, Discovery Channel launched its 24-hour parallel Hindi feed, which boosted the channel’s nationwide viewership. In January 2010, it launched a 24-hour Tamil channel and continued to penetrate the southern market with the launch of the Telugu channel on Jan 1 this year.
With the launch of the Bangla feed, they are expecting a rise in viewership in eastern India.
