Director Tyler Perry Talks About Childhood Abuse On “Oprah Winfrey Show”

Tyler PerryOct 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Much acclaimed filmmaker Tyler Perry made an appearance on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” on Wednesday, where the ace director revealed rather disturbing secrets about his growing up years. As Oprah Winfrey had promised in the preview, the noted actor/director’s interview indeed divulged quite ‘devastating secrets’ about his childhood when he recalled his disturbed relationship with his father as well as multiple instances of sexual abuse.

While talking to Oprah Winfrey, the “Why Did I Get Married?” director described his childhood as ‘a living hell’ while adding that he felt as if he had ‘died as a child.’ The noted filmmaker talked about how he had to endure violent beatings, name-calling and mental trauma from his father and how he resorted to his imagination to escape from the harsh realities of his growing up years. As a child, Tyler Perry, recalled that every single day, he lived under this constant fear of what might just set his father off while adding that things went so bad that at a point of time that he even considered taking his own life.

However, the mental trauma was not the only thing that Tyler Perry had to come face to face with during his growing up years as he was also subjected to sexual abuse by different people on multiple occasions. In the interview, the 41-year-old renowned actor/director recalled traumatic details of how he was sexually abused by the mother of one of his friend’s when he was just ten years old. Tyler Perry also divulged that as a child, he was sexually molested by a priest, a nurse as well as a male neighbor.
