Director Sofia Coppola wins the top honors at the Venice Film Festival for her movie ‘Somewhere’

Sep 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Director Sofia Coppola has won the top honors for her movie ‘Somewhere’ at the Venice Film Festival. She was honored with the Golden Lion for her extraordinary movie on Saturday. It ought to be mentioned that Sofia is the daughter of the legendary Francis Ford Coppola and this movie was a wee bit autobiographical also, as it had some shades from Sophia’s own life as well.

The movie is about a brash actor who has a turning point event in his life, when his little daughter comes into his life and in his home as well. When Sofia was presented with the award, then she didn’t forget to thank her illustrious father. She said that, “Thanks to my dad for teaching me.”

The chairman of the Venice film festival was Quentin Tarantino and after her win, he revealed that she was the unanimous choice for the award. He said that, “From that first enchanted screening it grew and grew in our hearts, in our minds, in our affections.”

The Best Actor Award was bagged by Vincent Gallo for his sensitive portrayal as an American Taliban in the movie ‘Essential Killing’. The Best Young Actor/Actress award was bagged by Mila Kunis’ for her extraordinary performance in the ballet thriller Black Swan.
