July 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) ‘Dinner for Schmucks’ a frothy comedy starring actor Steve Carell and Paul Rudd has hit the theaters and the initial reviews are largely positive. This is no doubt one of the best performances of Steve Carell and the film has a light hearted tone about it. Paul Rudd plays the role of a mid level executive aspiring to grow in his career. However, he finds that to succeed in his job he will have to cater to the rather unpleasant demands from his boss. He finds that he will have to find a guest for the dinner where the business executives have to find a ’social idiot’ who serves as the source of amusement for them.
The film ‘Dinner for Schmucks’ is inspired by the theatrical play and French film ‘The Dinner Game’. Paul Rudd finds an easy target in Steve Carell who is a taxidermist with a penchant for rats. Paul Rudd picks him up as the so called idiot for the dinner and keeps his conscience buried under. This starts the mayhem and the funny situations in the movie are on the lines of ‘The Office’ of NBC. Steve Carell portrays the quintessential odd man in the wrong situation to perfection and his goofy acts leave the viewers in splits.
‘Dinner for Schmucks’ is not much of a family movie or meant for kids either as it has a number of sexual jokes as well. There is also a partially nude scene. The film which is a production of Spyglass Entertainment has been made under the direction of Jay Roach. The censor board has given it a rating of PG-13.
