Dimensions Mumbai: Deadline Extended

This decision has been taken in view of the enormous response and requests received. Dimensions Mumbai is the discovery section of the 11th Mumbai Film Festival organized by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI). In its second year, Dimensions Mumbai invites short films of maximum five minutes duration made after August 2008. The theme for the competition is Mumbai, The Metropolis. The film should be on any aspect of life in the metropolis. Films made in any format, even a mobile phone camera, can participate in the competition.
Apart from short fiction, the competition is also open to films in documentary and animation formats. Media professionals and students not older than 25 years are eligible to send their entries in the prescribed form along with a preview VCD or DVD of the film. The films selected for inclusion in the Dimensions Mumbai Section would be adjudged by an eminent Jury and would be open to on-line voting on the MAMI website and the website of the Digital Partners of the Mumbai Film Festival.
The best entry of Dimensions Mumbai receives a cash award of Rs. 1 Lakh, while a runner up gets cash award of Rs. 50,000. A selection of entries along with the award winners will also be screened as part of the 11th Mumbai Film Festival that is scheduled from October 29 to November 5, 2009.
Dimensions Mumbai was started last year, as part of the 10th International Film Festival of Mumbai (Now renamed Mumbai Film Festival) by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI). The idea behind the competition is to identify and encourage new generation of filmmakers.
MAMI, a body comprising of Indian film industry stalwarts was started way back in 1997 by late filmmaker Shri Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Noted filmmaker Shri Shyam Benegal now heads the body that comprises of trustees such as film directors Yash Chopra, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Karan Johar, renowned actresses Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan, actor-director Amol Palekar and Farhan Akhtar and the chairman of Reliance Big Entertainment Amit Khanna.
Entry closes on September 20, 2009.
