London, Sep 28 (ANI): Leonardo Dicaprio has boosted his campaign to preserve the world’s tiger population by meeting with India’s Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh at a Coalition of Rainforest Nations event in New York on Friday (25Sep10).
The ‘Titanic’ star announced in May (10) he has pledged his support to the World Wildlife Fund’s Save Tigers Now initiative, which aims to raise 13-million-pound to help double the number of the species by 2022.
“The actor met the minister and has expressed his interest to play a crucial role in sensitising the global community to the cause of the Indian tiger. DiCaprio plans to come to India to be a part of the conservation efforts,” the Daily Star quoted an Indian government official as saying.
DiCaprio is not the only star backing the campaign, earlier this year, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan called for more work to preserve India’s dwindling tiger population. (ANI)
