Diane SawyerDec. 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Diane Sawyer has announced her decision to quit the show “Good Morning America.” She announced the decision to the audience in the last episode of the show that she hosted. She will be rendering her services next to the show “World News Tonight”, that will begin to air from the Dec. 21. Diane Sawyer will be taking over the place of Charles Gibson, who had retired recently. She had hosted almost 3,000 episodes of the show.

Diane Sawyer had been anchoring “Good Morning America” for the past 10 years. She had joined the show in 1999, since which she had covered an extensive range of topics from the Hurricane Katrina to disruptions in the Middle East. She has also interviewed eminent political figures like President George H.W. Bush and the former first lady Nancy Reagan. Her farewell was an emotional affair filled with laughter, tears and a whole lot of memories. She was joined by Robin Roberts from ABC.

Diane Sawyer bid a tearful goodbye to her fellow team-mates from ABC amidst the strains of the theme song from “Golden Girls”, “Thank You For Being A Friend” playing in the background. The audience was replaced by members from the crew as they all together took a trip down memory lane. Clips from the various episodes hosted by Diane Sawyer was shown, in the middle of which Robin Roberts wondered aloud if time could be stopped, evidently trying to hold back tears, saying she did not want the hour to end, as that would mark the end of a brilliant episode.

  1. Esther White Says:

I was deeply saddened that Chris Cuomo was not named to replace Diane Sawyer as co-anchor! He is everything a good decent man should be! I switched back & forth between GMA & the Today show. Without Chris, I’ll not be
watching GMA. Is 20/20 once a week a demotion? Did he not want the co-anchor job, was it even offered? Please respond! Thanks!
