Dhoble trying to kill Mumbai’s nightlife: B-town
June 12th, 2012 - 6:29 pm ICT by IANS
Mumbai, June 12 (IANS) Bollywood is not happy with the police crackdown on Mumbai’s nightclubs.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Vasant Dhoble’s zeal to ensure that late night bars do not flout rules related to music and overcrowding has not gone down well with many celebrities.
Actors say the policeman is trying to kill the city’s night life.
Dhoble raided the Shiro nightclub in Worli Saturday, saying it was flouting rules. Published reports say his team was armed with a video camera to film what they saw.
Popular nightclubs such as Club Escape in Andheri and Royalty in Bandra were also raided earlier.
This is what Bollywood has to say:
Neha Dhupia: I promise u Dhoble saab, I’ll b back home and fast asleep before 10 pm!
Vishal Dadlani: Somebody stop this Dhoble! (He) is destroying the joy left in Bombay. In the 90s, Pramod Navalkar tried similar stuff in Bombay. It destroyed his political career. Are we gonna take Dhoble on? I sure hope so!
Shruti Seth: Did Dhoble get rejected at a night club when he was a teenager? And has anyone explained the concept of Ladies’ Night to him? Wake up Sir
Kabir Bedi: It’s hard to believe policemen, backed by Home Minister, are raiding Mumbai restaurants/bars EVERY DAY, terrorising all. Talibanisation of Mumbai: RAIDS on good restaurants/lounges/young people, using antiquated laws, are killing social life.
Sophie Choudry: I thought Mumbai was known as the vibrant, exciting city that never sleeps! Are we gonna let Dhoble turn us into the city that only sleeps?!
Pritish Nandy: Someone do something about ACP Vasant Dhoble. He is Public Enemy No 1, the ugly face of State repression.
