Denzel Washington donates $2.25 million to Fordham University

Los Angeles, Oct 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actor Denzel Washington has made a generous contribution to his alma mater, Fordham University. The actor has given the university $2.25 million towards diverse projects.

The university officially announced on Monday that Washington made a donation of $2 million to the Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre in the school. He has also given $250,000 to cater for the tuition and of a minority student of the school. The lucky student is studying theater and the help will undoubtedly come in handy regarding the current economic situation that most families find themselves.

Washington passed through the university and during an interview he revealed that he was inspired by the late Bob Stone. He decided to give back to the university because Stone who was a theater professor at the university during the days that Washington was at the school played and influential part in shaping him to become who he is.

Bill Cosby show’s star Phylicia Rashad became the first Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre when she joined the faculty. She is famous for her role as Clair Huxtable in the comedy sitcom that captivated several people in the 1980s and 90s.
