Dennis Hopper Dead at 74 From Prostate Cancer

May 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Dennis Hopper, the Hollywood actor who is perhaps best known for his work as directer as well as starring in the cult classic from 1969 entitled “East Rider”, died in his home in Venice, a coastal suburb of Los Angeles, on Saturday morning at 8:15 am from complications he experienced due to prostate cancer. Hopper was 74 years old. According to a statement from Alex Hitx to ‘Reuters’, he was surrounded by family and friends at the time of his death.

His career was varied and lasted for over 50 years. He starred along with ‘James Dean’ in the film ‘Rebel Without a Cause’ and also in ‘Giant’. He also played the part of a madman in ‘Speed’, ‘Blue Velvet’, and ‘Apocalypse Now’. For ‘Easy Rider’, which also starred ‘Peter Fonda’ and ‘Terry Southern’, he won an Oscar nomination, as he did for his work in ‘Hoosiers’, a 1986 film about an alcohilic high school basketball coach.

Aside from his work in Hollywood, Hopper was also very much the artist. He was noted for his paintings, photography, sculptures, and art collection. Although he became ill last September, Hopper continued working on his cable television show, ‘Crash’ and a book which showcased his photography work. He was currently involved in a divorce from wife, Victoria Duffy, and is survived by four children. His funeral services are still being planned.
