Deepak Dobriyal first won accolades for his performance playing Saif Ali Khan’s side kick Rajju in Omkara. Now few more critically applauded performances later in relatively smaller but significant parts, the talented actor is all set to act in two films in the main lead.
“The first one is going to be Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron fame Kundan Shah’s silent 10-minute short film, Hero in Mumbai Cutting. This short film is dedicated to the train commuter, Mumbai’s unsung hero. Then there is Bela Negi’s Daayen Ya Baayen which narrates the journey of a man from a village to a city and how he has to adjust to city life. But when he goes back to his village he cannot adjust to the village life. We have shot the film in villages of Bageshwar, Almoda, Munshiari and Chaukadi” reveals Deepak.
Hailing from Garhwal, Dobriyal’s growing up years went in Delhi where he worked with theatre guru Arvind Gaur. His Mumbai arrival took place in 2001 following which he ended up doing bit roles in films. “But it was Vishal Bharadwaj who showed faith in me and he cast me in Omkara. But thereon people in the industry trust my work. I am looking forward to great films now” Deepak tells us.
Deepak recalls, “I did have to struggle a lot and was disappointed back then. People around me even started telling me to visit all the temples and religious places of Mumbai and so I did.”
“I think all that has paid off. I am looking forward to the lead roles. What more could I ask for today?” says Deepak. He further adds, “Compliments have been pouring in and am trying to give my best shot. I am ready to take risks and attempt any role. I have got no fear of breaking my image as I am not a star. I am an actor. Well as far as the six-pack Abs are concerned, I can definitely work on it if the role requires me to do so. I don’t want to get trapped in any image except maybe the image where my audience appreciates me.”
