New York, Oct 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Regina Lasko, who David Letterman married in march this year, after 23 years of dating is worried about the $2 million extortion scandal which is unfolding in all its layers.
David Letterman was blackmailed by a CBS employee who claimed that he had proof that David had sexual relations with the show’s female staff. Later, this blackmailer was found to be Robert J. “Joe” Halderman, a producer for the true-crime show “48 Hours”. He pleaded not guilty into trying to blackmail David Letterman for $2 million.
He was arraigned on one count of attempted first-degree grand larceny, punishable by five to 15 years upon full or partial conviction. His bail was set at a very steep $200,000.
The prosecutor said Halderman gave the talk show host a package of materials that “contained clear, explicit and actual threats that indicate this defendant (wanted to) destroy the reputation of Mr. Letterman and to submit him and his family to humiliation and ridicule.”
Assistant District Attorney Judy Salwen told the judge Halderman was in debt, but did not elaborate. “The evidence is compelling,” she said. “It shows the defendant is desperate, and he is capable of doing anything.”
However, Robert Halderman looked in a very sorry state during the whole of the court proceedings and only once said ‘not guilty’ to the charges posted against him.
