dl1 New York, Oct 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) David Letterman apologized on-air to his wife of less than a year and to other staff members. He tried his level best to match the seriousness of his mis-deeds with jokes and wisecracks in an apparent bid to lighten the atmosphere.

As Letterman mixed wisecracks with contrition, he said his wife, Regina Lasko, had been “horribly hurt by my behavior” and stated flat-out that those affairs “are in the past.”

“Let me tell you folks, I got my work cut out for me,” he said ruefully.

During the hour, Letterman apologized to his staff, which, he said, had been subjected to “being browbeaten and humiliated” by reporters since his revelations.

“My thanks to the staff for, once again, putting up with something stupid I’ve gotten myself involved in,” he said.

Brian Lakari, who attended the shoot of this apology laced show at the Ed Sullivan Theater, said Letterman gave “a sincere apology” to his wife and to the women working on his show. Lakari said Letterman also joked frequently about it, including with guests Steve Martin and Martin Short.

It may be recalled that David Letterman admitted all his sexual misdeeds after he was blacked to the tune of $2 million by Robert Halderman who had ample proof too, to back up his claims.
