London, January 20 (ANI): The producer accused of trying to extort money out of comedian David Letterman over his sexual affairs with female staff will be forced to stand trial.

TV producer Robert Halderman is due to appear back in court on March 9 after a New York judge rejected his bid to dismiss the case, reports The Daily Star.

Letterman confessed having bedded a number of his female co-workers and issued a public apology to his wife Regina Lasko on his ‘Late Show with David Letterman’.

He approached authorities telling them that he was being blackmailed to pay 1.25 million dollars to keep the information out of the public domain.

The alleged extortionist was exposed as Halderman who was later taken into custody. He was immediately suspended from his job at CBS news show 48 Hours.

An attorney for Halderman requested for the dismissal of his client’s indictment, claiming he was trying “to sell rights to a screenplay inspired by Letterman’s sexually-charged workplace”.

But Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon has denied the request, saying Halderman’s conduct was “a classic example of an issue that is best left for a trial jury to decide”. (ANI)
