David Jason isn’t happy with the amount of swearing on TV
December 6th, 2011 - 1:10 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Dec 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actor Sir David Jason says the television is currently filled with “too much swearing.” The former star of “Only Fools And Horses” was speaking in the Christmas Radio Times when he made the comments.
The 71-year-old stand-up comedian recalled his days as a television drama star saying the standards didn’t allow for swearing at those days. He played the role of Del Boy in “Only Fools And Horses from 1981 to 2003. The series was accused of immortalizing words like “dipstick” and “plonker”. Nonetheless, he said that the show had nothing wrong with it.
He said that, “In music-hall days, and especially at the BBC, you were never allowed swear words, so they came up with brilliant wheezes in Beyond Our Ken, The Goon Show and Round the Horne – ‘Hello, I’m Jules and this is my friend Sandy’. Everyone knew what it was about and the audience filled in the gaps.”
He slammed some of the current television shows in the United Kingdom saying the language barrier is continually being pushed to the limit as the years go by. According to David, any comedy that he could watch on television with his 11-year-old daughter is good for him.
David’s new television show titled The Royal Bodyguard is set to be aired on BBC One.
