Bangkok police have released details of the final hours leading up to the death of veteran Hollywood actor David Carradine as arrangements were being made to fly his body back to the US for burial.
Carradine, who will be remembered for his starring roles in the 70’s television series Kung Fu in which he played the role of Kwai Chang Caine, a wandering fugitive Shaolin monk, and as Bill in Kill Bill vols 1&2 was found dead in a Bangkok Hotel room on Wednesday morning.
According to Bangkok’s Lumpini police chief Police Colonel Somprasong Yentuam, the police investigation has found David Carradine had some drinks at the lobby bar of the hotel where he was staying on Wednesday night and left the bar a little before 9pm.
A hotel security guard accompanied Carradine to the lift and the hotels data system showed that he entered the room at 9pm and had not gone out again.
Somprasong said police found only one used glass on the table in the room with no other fingerprints on it.
The housekeeper who made the grisly discovery of a naked Carradine curled up inside the wardrobe with one end of a shoelace tied around his penis and the other end fastened around his neck has said she admitted herself to the room using a master pass-card after receiving no response to her knock on the door at around 11am on Thursday.
Hotel staff have said David Carradine, who was in Bangkok for the shooting of the movie Stretch was friendly and showed no signs of depression.
“Carradine always smiled and seemed in a good mood. He loved to say hi to hotel staff,” police quoted the hotel staff as saying.
In a career which included more than 100 movies over 45 years, David Carradine notched up three Golden Globe Award nominations, an Emmy nomination and a string of other accolades.
In December 2004 he married his current wife, Annie Bierman. He has three children, including actresses Calista and Kansas.
