chris-jenkinsAug 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Friday night, the “Dateline NBC” chose to keep in front of the viewers the story of former University of Minnesota student Chris Jenkins who died a mysterious death back in 2002. The reason of his death continues to be a mystery for his family that has never believed for once that their son had taken his own life. The “Dateline NBC” devoted a full one hour episode to discuss the death of the Racine County native Chris Jenkins.

The one hour program turned out to be an interesting one as it pointed out not only the flaws of the administration that did not think twice before discarding the death as another case of drowning or suicide, but also the pain of the Jenkins family who still do not have any clue about what led to the death of their son. On Friday, Steve Jenkins and Jan Jenkins, parents of the deceased, appeared in the NBC “Today Show” to tell their story.

Back in 2002, Chris Jenkins, who was then a University of Minnesota student, went missing from a tavern where he was attending a Halloween night party. His body was found four months later in the Mississippi River. Although the police dismissed the case at that time as a suicide or accidental drowning, in 2006, the case was re-opened after an order was passed by Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan. The Police Chief later declared the death of Chris Jenkins as a murder and apologized to the family in public for the lackadaisical behavior of the police. However, the police have not been able to find the criminal till date.
