Danny DeVito accepts award on behalf of ailing Michael Douglas
October 6th, 2010 - 1:03 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattDanny DeVito stepped in place of actor Michael Douglas and accepted an award on his behalf too. DeVito flew to Sweden to take part in the Zurich Film Festival and there he accepted the Golden Icon Award on Michael’s behalf.
It may be recalled that Michael Douglas is currently undergoing treatment for throat cancer and the doctors had deemed that he was too weak to fly to Sweden. So his friend and co-star of ‘Romancing the Stone’ and ‘The Jewel of the Nile’ – Danny went on his behalf to collect the award.
At the film festival, Danny spoke of Michael’s ailment in a lighter tone and said that “‘Michael is so strong. He gets better and better with every movie he makes. So that’s why I tell him to work more.”
With the discovery of throat cancer in August, Michael has been undergoing medical treatment in the form of chemotherapy and radiation. Doctors have said that he has an 80% chance of beating the disease.
Recently Michael Douglas’ movie ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps’ was released. He was also spotted taking his daughter to school recently, in which he looked very weak physically.
