dancing with the stars Dancing With The Stars returned with its eighth season on television with an eclectic mix of stars and promised a great show this season too. Two injured stars Nancy O’Dell and Jewel left the show early even as Gilles Marini resolved to continue the show in spite of tendinitis in his groin.

On the last show, Lil Kim, the rapper, revealed that she grew interested in the show during her stint at prison and said she was grateful to have last year’s champion Derek Hough as her dancing partner. She could do better but for a start she was good. Head judge Len Goodman complimented her with her “first class” appraisal of the performance. The pair raked in a score of 21.

Belinda Carlisle, 50 and her partner Jonathan Roberts missed the grace of a Jane Seymour but looked lovely on stage dancing together. All they need now is to get their feet on rhythm now if they want to improve thir combined score of 17.

Meanwhile Lawrence Taylor and his partner Edyta Sliwinska managed to get a “naturalness” compliment from Len even as they notched up their score to 16. Steve-O on the other hand managed the score of 17 only because he had Lacey Schwimmer to cover up for his mistakes.

Newcomer Gilles Marrini and the wonderful Cheryl Burke seem strong contenders even with Gilles’ injury. The raw talent these two possess is nearly palpable and that makes up for some rough edges. They managed a score of 24 rather effortlessly.

Chuck Wicks is a rank newcomer to the show though Julianne Hough is a dancing veteran. They showed good potential and seemed comfortable with the moves as they got a score of 20. Holly Madison and Dmitry Chaplin need to put in more practice as their performance seemed half-hearted at best. Ty Murray was charming though his partner Chelsie Hightower may have to bid the shoe goodbye soon.

Shawn Johnson is the youngest ever contestant on the show at 17 and with her 22 year old partner Mark Ballas gave an amazingly graceful and “surprisingly refined” performance. On contrart the cofounder of Apple Computers, Steve Wozniak and his partner Karina Smirnoff may have to leave the show early if he does not start giving away Macbooks for votes. David Alan Grier and Kym Johnson managed a forgettable performance ad Denise Richards was all nerves during her performance with Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani performed well and may retain their spot on the show.

The first elimination happens next Tuesday.
