“Dancing with the Stars” is one reality show where the viewers are bound to have huge doses of entertainment and twists. This is what happened on Monday night’s show when it was announced that one of the most promising contenders, Melissa Rycroft, would be unable to compete due to rib injury. According to the format of the competition, every couple has to dance twice, once with each other and the other with a team, for this reason for the first time in the show the organizers had to throw another variable in the mix.

Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke were the first performers on Monday’s show. They danced on a funky Lindy pop number and the judges appreciated them a lot. The next in line were Lil’ Kim and Derek Hough. They did a fascinating Paso to which one of the judges, Bruno Tonioli, commented as being “classy”. Chuck Wicks and Julianne Hough performed Cha Cha Cha. Then it was time for Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas who did a Samba. Next it was time for Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani but since Melissa was injured they were marked on the basis of their performance in one of the rehearsals. This round ended with Ty Murray and Chelsie Hightower’s Samba.

The real twist came to the show when it was time for the group performances. Melissa had injured her rib so a professional dancer, Lacey Schwimmer took her place. The judges were, however, relentless and they announced that the group performance would be judged strictly on the performance of the actual group members and Melissa would get the same score as her team mates. The producers of “Dancing with the Stars” have claimed that Melissa will be back on the stage by next week.
