November 6th, 2010 - 4:16 pm ICT by Sampurn Wire
November 6, 2010 (Showbiz PR Wire): “After many years two mariners return to homeland with the hope of a new beginning, little did they know about a disaster that would change their destiny.”
DAM999, produced by Biz TV Network and directed by Sohan Roy, has confirmed its presence at the American Film Market 2010 (suite number 321). American Film Market is a pivotal destination for independent filmmakers and business people from all over the world. The AFM is a marketplace where production and distribution deals are closed. The plot of DAM999 is being inspired by the tragic Banqiao dam disaster in 1975, which took the lives of over 2, 50,000 people. It speaks about the exploitation of resources and atrocities by the politicians in the name of development, which personifies the vulgar face of power politics of any country.
DAM999 is an attempt to highlight the unseen beauty of the maritime world in the back drop of rich Indian culture. The sequences of the movie have been shot in 9 exotic locations, including Ramoji Film City, which is accredited as the largest production studio by Guinness Book of world records. The movie is also shot extensively on the mighty tanker vessel ‘Front Sabang [153,644 GT]’, the largest vessel ever to be used in a movie. The largest real ship ever used before in a movie was USS Carl Vinson [101,300 GT] for, “Behind the Enemy Lines”. Most of the movies involving ships fill the reel with models and graphics and not the real ships. The movie attempts to portray onscreen the amazement, adventure and the agony that a mariner experience in midst of the vast ocean.
The technical excellence of DAM999 competes with standards of some of the best international movies. The movie is packaged in 3D so as the audience gets a real feel of DAM bursting sequences on widescreen which have been beautifully shot using live sets. Visual Effects, which is the main highlight of the climax sequence, is being done by Prasad EFX Chennai, largest digital post-production house in India. 16 National and International award winners from 9 different film industries have been roped up for this venture to create magic on screen.
The crew of DAM 999 includes technicians from both Hollywood and Indian Cinema. The international crew has Eric Sherman as the project consultant and Rob Tobin as the Script Doctor. The Indian crew includes quite a few critically acclaimed names like Ajayan Vincent, Suresh Pai, Padmasree Thotta Tharani, Ousepachan, Amala Popuri, Shajith Koyeri, Pattanam Rasheed and S. B. Satheesh. A line-up of veteran actors like Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajit Kapur, and Gary Richardson along with multi-faceted actors like Vinay Rai, Vimala Raman, Megha Burman, Joshua Fredric Smith, Jaala Pickering, Linda Arsenio and Jineet Rath form the cast of DAM999.
