New York, Sept 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Singer Cyndi Lauper over the weekend had someone to take over from her when she fluffed part of the US National Anthem. The 58-year-old singer was performing the US National Anthem at the finals of the US Open championship over the weekend.

Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks in the United States, Lauper sung the words, “O’er the ramparts we watched as our flag was still streaming.” The real words at that part of the anthem are “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.”

She kept her composure and the mishap and finished the lyrics. After the performance, she took to Twitter and wrote that, “I got choked up in the middle remembering 9/11. Hope I didn’t mess up too bad. I wanted it to be comforting.”

This is the second time in a year that a major singer has fluffed part of the US anthem. During the Super Bowl earlier in the year at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium Aguilera had fluffed part of the anthem.

She later explained that, “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”
