CWG To Have A Musical Ending
October 14th, 2010 - 5:50 pm ICT by Sampurn Wire
October 14, 2010 (Sampurn Media): While the 19th Delhi Commonwealth Games opened with a bang more than a week ago, the organizers promised that the closing ceremony is scheduled to be a grander affair. And it is music that takes center stage on Thursday as Delhi draws the curtains on the 19th Commonwealth Games. All set to perform on the Delhi stage are singers Kailash Kher, Shankar Mahadevan and Sukhwinder Singh. Kailash Kher will wow the audiences with his ‘Allah Ke Bande’, Shankar Mahadevan will belt out several Bollywood chartbusters from popular Bollywood movies and Sukhwinder Singh is expected to take the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium by storm with his ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’, not to forget the hit tracks from “Chak De”.
Bharat Bala, the creative director of the closing ceremony promises that people who are not accustomed to Bollywood music need not worry. Well known tracks like ‘One Love’ and ‘We Will Rock You’ will also be ingredients on the music menu of the closing ceremony. Though Bharat Bala says that the closing ceremony is as much the celebration of the martial arts forms and dance forms in India as it is about varieties such as the sufi music, the indipop and folk music, reports claim otherwise, considering that stalwarts from the music industry like Shubha Mudgal and Ila Arun will also be a part of the CWG closing ceremony. Choreographer Shiamak Davar’s dance troupe will be seen performing to the Music of Universal Love. While A R Rahman will not be present, his music will surely be a part of the music of the closing ceremony to be held today.
