Aug 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Despite the fact that celebrities such as Demi Moore and Madonna might be the stark example of the ‘cougar’ phenomenon, a recently conducted study has termed it a myth which is only limited to the world of glitz and glamor. A research which took into account the online dating websites revealed that when it comes to choosing the perfect life partner, common people still tend to remain traditional as women generally look out for older men while on the other hand men chose to be with younger, attractive females. Keeping in mind the general trend that was observed, the researchers concluded that the phenomenon of ‘cougar’ was nothing but fiction.
The findings of the study, which was undertaken by the researchers at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC), was published earlier this week in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior. The research completely refuted the ‘cougar’ phenomenon which has gained widespread popularity over the years through television shows such as “Cougar Town” which stars Courteney Cox who plays the role of a 40 something divorcee dating younger men as well as movies such as “Sex and the City” which tells the tale of four women in their 40’s.
A statement that was released by psychologist Dr Michael Dunn, who is one of the lead authors of the study, reads that the findings of the research completely refutes the common assumption that with women becoming financially independent, they no longer seek financial security from wealthy, older men. The psychologist further revealed that the traditional view point found favor even among men who targeted much younger women as they themselves grew older.
