Coroner: Brittany Murphy’s death caused by pneumonia and drug intoxication

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (BNO News) – Brittany Murphy’s death was due to a combination of community acquired pneumonia, iron deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication, the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner said today on Thursday.

The drugs were all prescription medicine as the Coroner concluded that the death was accidental. A more detailed report will be available from the Corone’s office in two weeks.

According to reports from her husband, Simon Monjack, and mother, Sharon Murphy, the actress was suffering from flu-like symptoms the days before she died.

Brittany Murphy was found unresponsive at her home in Hollywood December 20.

Murphy began her Hollywood career at the age of fourteen and was known for her roles in Clueless, 8 mile and Sin City, among others. The last film she completed, Abandoned, is scheduled to be released later this year.
