‘Coronation Street’ musical in the works?August 15th, 2009 - 2:45 pm ICT by ANI
London, Aug 15 (ANI): Rumours are abuzz that a stage musical version of ‘Coronation Street’ is being developed as part of the celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the soap in 2010.
The soap’s writers are said to be working with legendary stage songwriter Trisha Ward.
Staff on the set in Manchester are keeping mum about the project but Ward’s management company website states: “Reckless Entertainment will shortly be announcing details of a major new stage musical based on an iconic entertainment property.”
The stage production is believed to feature “the lives and loves” of the Street’s favourite characters and will be just one of the events to celebrate the landmark achievement next year.
“With this special anniversary coming up, we have been thinking how best to celebrate. A musical could be just the ticket,” the Daily Express quoted a Weatherfield source as saying.
A spokesman for the show said: “We are talking about doing a musical as part of 50th celebrations. It is just one of many ideas.” (ANI)
