Bairi Piya, a young girl’s story set on the background of farmer suicides. Balaji Telefilms first offering on COLORS in weekday prime-time band. Known for its meaningful shows, COLORS is back again with yet another endearing offering, “Bairi Piya’. The story is set against the background of farmer suicides in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. It explores the life of an innocent and beautiful young girl Amoli who finds herself being the object of desire of the wealthy village Thakur, under the pretense of saving her family from financial doom. Produced by Balaji Telefilms, “Bairi Piya’ premieres on 21st September 2009 and will air Monday-Friday at 8:30 pm.

Produced by Balaji Telefilms, Bairi Piya is a comment on how the poor and the needy are exploited by rich money lenders and how hundreds of poverty stricken girls fall prey to manipulative men seeing no respite in sight. Moving away from its usual style, Balaji Telefilms is now producing a show that tells the story of a section of our society that is facing serious issues due to economic and financial conditions. It delves deep into the harsh realities of rural India where farmers commit suicide, as they find it impossible to pay off their loans and how it is the womenfolk of the household who end up being the unworthy victims.
Balaji Telefilms’s Ekta Kapoor said, “This show is based on the real India and the real problems it faces. The idea of Bairi Piya was to highlight the plight of the “kisaan’ who after 60 years of the country’s independence is still facing immense problems. This has become the basis and background of the show where the ambience is set around a poor farmer’s family, which is economically and financially deprived.”
Bairi Piya will go on air on the 21st of September and will be aired from every Monday to Friday at 8.30 PM only on COLORS. The show which although focuses on certain important social issues; at the same time additionally addressing certain other economic and financial issues faced by rural India and the devastating consequences faced due to these issues through the eyes of Amoli.
