nat1Los Angeles, Feb 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) One of the most anticipated events of the awards season, the Screen Actors Guild Awards was held on Sunday night at Los Angeles’ Shrine Exposition Center witnessing the presence of the who’s who of the world of glitz and glamor. The award ceremony which reached its 17th year this time, was a star-studded event with the period drama ‘The King’s Speech’ turning out to be one of the big winners of the night. The television audience were also able to catch a glimpse of their favorite star’s moment of glory as the event was broadcast live on TNT as well as TBS.

‘The King’s Speech’ continued its winning streak as it took home the honor for the outstanding cast, the event’s equivalent of a best film as well as the best actor award for Colin Firth. Meanwhile, Natalie Portman continued her reign at this year’s award season by bagging the outstanding actress in a drama honor for her critically acclaimed performance in the psychological thriller ‘Black Swan.’ After reserving the Golden Globes for ‘The Fighter’,’ Christian Bale and Melissa Leo were back at the award ceremony on Sunday night each getting the best supporting actor awards for their performance in Mark Wahlberg’s boxing drama.

While Betty White took home the award for the lead actress in a comedy for ‘Hot In Cleveland,’ Alec Baldwin was once again announced as the winner of the best actor in comedy honor for the fifth consecutive time for his work on ‘30 Rock.’ However, ‘The Social Network’ left empty-handed at the 17th SAG awards after it failed to be bestowed with any awards despite receiving two nominations.
