Sep 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The opening clash between the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints held few surprises for the fans who were waiting eagerly for the NFL season to start. Apart from the bone crunching football action on field, off-field events have also made it to the main page. Colbie Caillat, the ‘Bubbly’ girl who sang her way into American hearts with her award winning songs and lyrics, was seen performing the American national anthem for the fans.
Earlier, several singers have sung their renditions of the national anthem before the game. Whitney Houston had sung her version before the Super Bowl which was considered one of the best renditions of the national anthem of the time. Colbie Caillat performance, however, received a mixed response from the audience. At Jackson square, country sensation Taylor Swift and Dave Mathews Band were also seen performing to packed audiences.
On field, the Minnesota Vikings went down to the New Orleans Saints with a final score of 14-9. Drew Brees made 27 of the 36 passes for 237 yards and also made one touchdown. The Super Bowl MVP said that though his team was not used to the low scores, they were used to winning. He added that the New Orleans Saints were looking to improve on certain aspects of the game against the Vikings and felt that in this game they did. Coach Sean Payton echoed his sentiments and stated that he was proud of the way his team performed. Colbie Caillat was selected from several other singers to perform the national anthem in front of the thousands that turned up for the game. The opportunity is considered to be an honor for celebrities.

Never heard Colbie before but I was very impressed with her rendition of the national anthem. I think very possibly the best one I have heard yet. Very clean, very controlled and non-broadwayish! I will watch her further developements.

One of the worst renditions of our national anthem ever! Sure the words were for the Star Spangled banner, but the music was not! I hate it when “artist” want to change something that doesn’t need to be changed, sing it right! Sing it the way it was written!!
