Clooney promises to keep fighting for peace despite UN snubFebruary 5th, 2008 - 5:06 pm ICT by admin
Washington, Feb 5 (ANI): George Clooney has pledged to live up to his new role of a spokesperson for peace - despite being snubbed during his visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Clooney paid a visit to speak about UN peacekeeping missions but was unable to accomplish his goal because some delegates refused to let him speak.
The 46-year-old actor was hoping to convince nations that contribute troops to the 17 official peacekeeping missions to offer further help and assistance to refugees in Darfur.
However, the new U.N. Messenger of Peace found himself at odds against Russia and France, who decided they didn’t need a movie star to tell them what to do, refusing to let him speak publicly.
“There are groups that don’t feel that I necessarily class up the joint and don’t feel that I should be speaking to them,” Contactmusic quoted Clooney, as saying.
However, the new U.N. Messenger of Peace is determined that he isn’t going to let delegates and politicians simply ignore him - because he has too much to say about the problems he has seen in Africa.
“I think what moves me the most about this entire trip was the fact that I was in Chad two years ago, and it’s worse now there than when I was there. And that Sudan isn’t particularly better now,” he added.
The new U.N. Messenger of Peace visit to the headquarters came just two days after he returned from a two-week fact-finding trip to Darfur with the U.N. assistant secretary general of peacekeeping operations. (ANI)
