North Carolina, Mar 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former “American Idol” contestant Clay Aiken appeared at the campaign dinner of the Human Rights campaign that took place in North Carolina, on Saturday, Feb 27. At the occasion, he gave a news making speech, about the rights of the gay community. In the speech, he advocated very strongly for gay rights. The speech comes just after about a year that he came out of his closet and declared that he is a homosexual. He also explained why it had taken him such a long time to disclose in public his orientation. All through his speech, the desire to see a change in the society was very much prominent.
Clay Aiken took the stage, and was accompanied by Meredith Baxter, a former cast member of the show “Family Ties.” After Clay Aiken went up to the stage, he commented, very vocally, about the rights that should be given to the gay community in the United States, saying that it is time to accept them as part of the mainstream society. He also commented that it has been an exhilarating and “liberating” experience for him to be finally able to speak freely about his sexuality.
About his disclosure about his sexuality, he said that it had taken him so long to be open about it only because just like any other gay person, he had been hoping for the right time ti arrive, an hoping for some change. He moreover commented that he felt that the whole coming out thing is something that is restricted only to the gay community, and that it is something no straight person has ever had to do, pointing out the discrimination.
