The ‘Tears in Heaven’ singer has revealed in his new book ‘Eric Clapton: The Autobiography’ that he was sure that Carla Bruni would not be able to resist Jagger’s charms.

He recalled in the tome that he once took his model girlfriend to meet the Stones in concert, and then introduced her to the band backstage.

Clapton writes that looking at the 21-year-old beauty’s reaction, when she saw Jagger, he requested his friend to spare his girl.

“Please Mick, not this one. I think I’m in love,” Contactmusic quoted him as writing in the book.

Jagger, however, did not pay a heed to Clapton’s request, and later went on to date Carla.

“I knew Carla would appeal to his eye. For all my pleadings, it was only a matter of days before they started a clandestine affair. After Carla had stood me up a couple of times, I got a call from the girl who had introduced us, telling me Carla was seeing Mick and it was serious,” Clapton writes.

“The obsession gripped me for the rest of that year, and took some grisly turns when I found myself guesting with the Stones on a couple of shows, knowing she was lurking in the background,” he adds.

Clapton has also revealed that Carla was not the only girl because of whom he and Jagger became love rivals.

“In the past he had made several unsuccessful passes at (my former wife) Pattie (Boyd),” he writes in the book. (ANI)
