Chuck Berry ‘recovers after collapsing at Chicago concert’
January 3rd, 2011 - 12:42 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Jan 3 (ANI): Rock ‘n’ roll legend Chuck Berry is recovering at his home near St. Louis after falling ill from exhaustion during a concert in Chicago, a representative said in a written statement.
The 84-year-old musician reportedly slumped over an accompanist’s keyboard in the midst of his performance, and was promptly removed from the stage to be examined by paramedics, reports News.com.au.
While Berry was not able to complete the concert at the Congress Theater, he returned one last time to thank the fans.
He, however, left the venue shortly thereafter using his famous ‘duck walk’ without playing again.
He walked out of the theatre’s stage door on his own into an awaiting limousine.
Berry signed a release saying he was ok, and he was not taken to a hospital, according to Fire Department spokesman Joe Roccasalva.
“All I know is he felt faint, he felt weak, and I was told to call 911,” said Michael Petryshyn, the concert’s promoter, after Berry left.
The veteran musician, who had been active in recent days, had performed two shows in New York City the night before flying to Chicago.
Although Berry performs regularly in his hometown St. Louis, he infrequently gives concerts elsewhere. (ANI)
