Christina Aguilera gets the US National Anthem wrong

New York, Feb 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Christina Aguilera told the Associated Press that she messed up with a line of the US National Anthem because of her love for the country.

The singer failed to get it right when she was given the microphone to sing arguably the most popular song in the United States during the Super Bowl last Sunday. She replaced the original words “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming” with “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming” which was a repeat of an earlier line.

Even with the repeat, she got some of the parts wrong. She used “watch” instead of “hailed” and “reaming” instead of “gleaming”. How she got the anthem wrong is very surprising because shortly after it was announced that she will be performing the song at the Super Bowl, she said that she was excited about it because she has been performing the song since she was just 7.

In a statement to the AP later, Aguilera said that, “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”

Aguilera fared better than Macy Gray when she fumbled in 2001 with the National Anthem. The crowd that gathered at a Pro Football Hall of Fame exhibition game in Canton, Ohio booed at her. She later said the incident was the “most embarrassing moment” in her life.
